Mule Day and Chickenfest
June 2-3
Gordo, Alabama
The Gordo Area Chamber of Commerce sponsors the annual Muleday/Chickenfest festival the first week-end in June. The festival begins Friday afternoon and lasts until Saturday night. Muleday was the original idea of the late Cecil Robertson. Chickenfest began in the early 1990's and was held in October. The Chamber sponsored Chickenfest annually to promote the chicken industry, Pickens County's top agricultural industry. Peco Farm's Hatchery and feed mill are located in Gordo. The events were combined around 1999.
Muleday/Chickenfest has a 5K run, Kiddie Tractor Race, Antique Air Plane Flyover and the Mule Parade featuring antique cars and tractors, mules and wagons, and horses and riders. There are also food vendors and Arts and Craft vendors that offer a wide variety of unique and interesting items. Another highlight of this event is the Children's Area, which provides fun activities for the children. Entertainment is provided with a variety of music offered both Friday and Saturday.
